A fully enclosed elevator usually refers to one in which both the car and the hoistway are completely enclosed with solid panels (such as steel plates or wood boards), in contrast to a transparent glass panoramic elevator.
Main advantages
-
Privacy and sense of security: It completely blocks the line of sight, so passengers are not disturbed by the outside during the ride. It provides a strong sense of enclosure and is friendlier to the elderly, children, or people with a fear of heights.
-
Durable and easy to maintain: The panels are stain-resistant and wear-resistant. Unlike glass, they do not require frequent cleaning of fingerprints and dust, and generally require no routine cleaning.
-
Sound insulation and noise reduction: The enclosed hoistway can effectively block the mechanical noise produced during elevator operation.
-
Cost-effective: With the same configuration, a fully enclosed structure usually costs less than a panoramic elevator and has fewer restrictions on civil engineering modifications.
However, it should also be noted that the appearance of an enclosed elevator tends to be more traditional and less aesthetically appealing than a panoramic elevator. It may block part of the indoor daylight, and in small apartments it can easily make the space feel cramped or dull.
